THE JAMES COND BUILDING BIRMINGHAM

The James Cond Building was once a historical printing factory in Birmingham's famed Jewellery Quarter built in the 1920s, but after years of sitting derelict and eventually transforming into the local carpark its life has been transformed once again and is now the flagship internal intentional community for the Box For Life Network. The building is in a prime location, close to schools, public transport, local shopping and easy access directly to the Jewellery Quarter and sites along the B4135 meaning easy access to the site in a car and when moving location with your home.

THE BURROWS

Your dedicated residential area! The burrows are host to all residential homes as well as indoor gardens, a gym, residents car park and semi private events spaces for community events through the year.

THE NESTS

Let's Connect! The Nests are the hottest place for social interaction at the James Cond site, play a game of football, learn pottery with a hire and loans pottery wheel or even spend the evening cooking with the neighbours in one of the community kitchen spaces.

But that isn't the only thing, once you connect and become part of an on site community (or create your own off grid community) you gain access to whole world of help from your neighbours, from planning events and booking out any specialist equipment you may want to use the Box For Life app is the perfect way to make neighbours for life.

A Healthy Urban Lifestyle

The James Cond buildings most distinguishable feature is it's dramatic angled roof that has been designed to optimise natural daylight levels within the building whilst also creating a visual hierarchy using light to determine private, semi private and public spaces in the building. This design helps facilitate the integration of community gardening as a strengthening activity between neighbours.

The building has been designed with a minimalist material pallet that compliments the bold presence of our Box For Life modular tiny homes. The building itself works hard to reduce sounds, smells and pollution that enter the site from the urban landscape of Birmingham and aims to replicate the modern rural conversion aesthetic that so many barn conversions strive for.

Whilst the building offers basic services such as a post office, a gym and office spaces the building encourages internal residents to explore the local area and helps the Box For Life network strengthen its connection to the local area through internal public events in the events spaces.

NETWORK EXPANSION
(PHASE 2)

Phase 1 of the Box For Life Project has been completed, the development of Birmingham's flagship community has come to life and you can shop your very own box for life modules right here! However, we recognise that for many of you Box For Life is about the flexibility and sense of wider community other than yourselves. That's why Phase 2 will expand on the developments made in Phase 1 and more urban community sites will come to life in cities all across the UK allowing you to take that job in Manchester or London without the fear of finding somewhere to live and have the looming concern of costs over your head!
